Each Thanksgiving, Back to Basics Health and Wellness hosts a Food Drive with all proceeds to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County (feedoc.org).  2012 will mark the 5th Annual Food Drive that we are supporting.  Over the past 4 years with the help of our patients and the local community we have raised thousands of pounds of food and donations for Second Harvest who works with Feeding America (feedingamerica.org) to  distribute this food to those who would otherwise go hungry.  Currently, Second Harvest distributes over 17 million pounds of food each year to 234 Emergency services, 22 Soup Kitchens, 56 Shelters, 2 Residences, 43 Daycares, 24 Senior Programs, 57 Rehabilitation and 14 Youth Programs across Orange County.  While the US Census Bureau states that the population of California is over 37 million, the Food Insecurity Rate is around 15.9% of the population and when you look at the Child Food Insecurity rate it almost doubles to 26.8% with an overall child poverty rate of 19.1%.  This means that 1 in 4 children in California is at risk of going hungry - a staggering statistic in our modern society and one that we should not ignore.

Our Food Drive will start with a KICK OFF event at Trader Joes 640 W. 17th Street, Costa Mesa, CA, 92627 from 9am to 3pm Saturday November 17th - come get your weekly groceries and Thanksgiving Dinner items and pick up a few extra cans of beans or a bag of rice or any non-perishable item of your choice to donate to the Food Drive.

We will also be accepting non-perishable food and personal hygiene item donations at the Back to Basics office until December 1st - 1617 Westcliff Dr., Suite 205, Newport Beach, CA, 92660 during normal business hours.

All people who make a non-persishable food donation at Back to Basics or Trader Joes will receive a raffle ticket with a chance to WIN a $25 Gift Card to Trader Joes or a One Hour Back to Basics Massage!    Winners will be notified after the Food Drive.

THANKSGIVING "THANK YOU" SPECIAL: To make it really easy to refer a friend or family member to Back to Basics during the Thanksgiving Holiday Season we have a special Thank You.  For anyone who donates 10+ non-perishable items to the Second Harvest food drive you will receive a gift certificate for a complete chiropractic exam and X-rays with Dr. Tom Hewitt or Dr. Ryan Samuelian.  For our existing patients we will allow you to get a re-exam (if necessary) and/or a chiropractic adjustment when you donate 10+ items!!  This is the best offer of the year and all you have to do is raid your pantry and donate to a great local charity!

Thank You all for your Support, and Have a Very Happy Thanksgiving with your families!

In Health,

The Health and Wellness Team at Back to Basics.
